The secret is out… but don’t tell a soul
For months they’ve been jealously guarding the secret location of a regular lunchtime haunt as if their lives depended on it.
We weren’t the only first timers enjoying the fab lunch. French visitors – I couldn’t resist testing my finely honed eavesdropping prowess – were equally impressed.
The magnificent Ballathie rump steak with red onion marmalade and peppercorn sauce served with a mixed leaf salad and chargrilled spuds had already been recommended to the other half. My own hot sandwich selection was a vast Ballathie beef burger with basil mayo and the crispiest of lettuce. We’d started with one of the finest prawn Marie rose and avocado salads I’ve tasted since it first grabbed my attention along with the equally exotic Messrs Bolan and Bowie back in the seventies.
Beef from the adjacent estate definitely warranted top billing.
